Description

A drowned chamber beneath the streets of a boomtown, where the foundations of an old mission-era library have settled below the waterline of the river that broke through during a spring flood. Tall wooden shelves sag under the pressure of murky water, their leather-bound spines — Spanish mission records, settlers' ledgers, a foreman's lost journal — blooming with silt and pale river algae. Shafts of greenish light fall through a cracked grate far above, catching the slow drift of dust and the shapes of drowned reading tables. The air smells of wet stone, ink, and the iron tang of old mining tools abandoned to the current.
